Faro Train Station is the most significant railway junction in the entire Algarve region, operated by Comboios de Portugal (CP).

Alfa Pendular Trains
Faro rail station is served by Alfa Pendular trains — high-speed tilting trains capable of speeds up to 220 km/h (137 mph). Alfa Pendular services connect Faro directly with Lisbon and Porto, making them the fastest and most comfortable option for long-distance travel from the Algarve. Ticket reservations are required for long-distance Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains. There are approximately two Alfa Pendular departures per day from Faro, one early in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Intercidades Trains

Intercidades trains are comfortable express intercity trains providing direct routes between major cities. Faro Station offers daily mainline train services to Lisbon, with travel times ranging from 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours and 45 minutes. Trains to Porto depart from Faro via Lisbon, with the full journey to Porto Campanha taking approximately 6 hours.

The station has separate ticket offices for Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services, Regional and InterRegional services, and international routes. Ticket office hours for Alfa Pendular, Intercity, and Regional services are 6:40 AM to 12:20 PM, 12:50 PM to 7:30 PM, and 8:00 PM to 9:15 PM daily. International services ticket office operates on weekdays only from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

All platforms are accessible, and disabled toilets are available within the station building. Local Buses
City buses, specifically lines 14 and 16, connect Faro train station to Faro Airport, taking about 15 minutes for the journey. Buses run frequently from the station with routes covering the city center, Praia de Faro beach, and Gambelas. The fare for local buses is approximately €2.25 if bought directly from the bus driver.
Taxi and Ride-Hailing
A dedicated taxi rank is located outside the main entrance of Faro Train Station. The taxi start tariff is €3.00, increasing by €0.50 per kilometer. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Bolt also operate in Faro, offering convenient alternatives from the station to any destination in the city.
Faro Airport

Faro train station is located approximately 7 km (4 mi) from Faro Airport, and there is no direct railway connection between the two locations. Trains to Lagos take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes on the regional service along the Algarve Line. Trains to Porto depart via Lisbon and take approximately 6 hours to Porto Campanha. Regional services also connect Faro to Tavira (approximately 40 minutes), Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the Spanish border, Loule, and Albufeira.
